I'm not really a fan of Taylor Swift but there has been an article in the media lately that caught my attention. A teenager from Stratford, NJ named Kevin McGuire was diagnosed with Leukemia when he was just 13 years old. He beat the cancer and unfortunately it came back again. Kevin's sister Victoria created a Facebook page asking Taylor Swift to take Kevin to his senior prom on June 1, which is also his birthday. The page received support from nearly 100,000 people, including myself. I first noticed the article on Facebook and looked more into it once I saw my friends re-posting it and I realized the boy was a local. Taylor posted a response on her own Facebook page. Taylor couldn't make it to Kevin's prom but she gave him an even better offer. "I'm so sorry but I won't be able to make it to your prom. But, I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up... Would you be my date?" I really gained a lot of respect for Taylor Swift after hearing about this. I hope Kevin McGuire feels up to going to the awards with her and has a great time! He truly deserves it and I can't wait to see them on the red carpet together!
Oh god, this was all over my facebook. It's really nice and he, his sister, and cousins are all lovely people. I was a bit surprised that Taylor responded to him, but it's really awesome that she invited him to go with her to the CMAs.
ReplyDeleteI think that it was really sweet of Tori to do this and Kevin's a cool kid and he deserves this chance, especially since he's been through so much. It'll be exciting to see him on the red carpet :3
