This is a topic currently in the media that really interested me. Although I'm not a big fan of Miranda Lambert, I couldn't help but agree with her when I heard about this controversy. I'm sure most of us know that in 2009, Chris Brown assaulted then girlfriend Rihanna just before that year's Grammy Awards. Not only did he hit her, but he strangled her and left her unconscious. He could've nearly killed her. He later pleaded guilty to felony charges and was sentenced to five years probation. Obviously, he got a "slap on the wrist" because he is a celebrity and only 3 years later he is performing on the Grammy's again and back in the spotlight. If he were any other regular "average Joe" he would be locked up! On February 20th, Chris Brown and Rihanna released a collaboration for her song, "Birthday Cake." Rumors began to spread that the former couple were secretly getting back together. Personally, I think the fact that they are collaborating and releasing songs together makes Rihanna look bad. If he treated her so badly and abused her as bad as the media said, why would she even want anything to do with him? She even had a restraining order against him after the incident and I think it just makes her look like a hypocrite to have any type of connection with him again, even if it is just for business purposes. Although, I do think Chris Brown is a talented artist, what he did was inexcusable. I completely agree with Miranda Lambert's statements on twitter and at her concert. At her concert in Amherst, Massachusetts on Thursday she spoke her mind and said "I just have to speak my mind, because where I come from, beating up on a woman is never OK. So that's why my daddy taught me early on in life how to use a shotgun." The audience cheered in agreement. During her July 2011 Behind the Music special, Lambert spoke about how her family took in battered woman when she was a child. This was something that she grew up around and she can say that she knows the pain physical abuse causes. At this years Grammy's, Chris Brown went home with a Grammy for best R&B Album and he also performed not once, but twice. This was the final straw for Miranda Lambert, as she took to her Twitter to express her opinions. Lambert tweeted, "Chris Brown twice I don't get it. He beat on a girl...Not cool that we act like that didn't happen. He needs to listen to "Gunpowder and Lead" and be put back in his place. Not at the Grammy's." She posted her thoughts over multiple tweets and a few days later Chris Brown responded, tweeting, "Using my name to get publicity I love it! Perform your heart out! Go buy Miranda Lambert album! So motivational and "PERFECT!" Personally, I am still shocked that Rihanna and Chris Brown are releasing songs together after everything that happened over the years! Some relationships are just unhealthy and once broken should be left that way! Maybe it is just a publicity stunt to get attention from the media? Who knows. So whose side are you on with the Miranda vs. Chris feud?

A legend gone too soon. Did Houston pay the ultimate price of addiction?
So over the weekend I was thinking about what I wanted to post for my next blog topic. Saturday night was my boyfriend's birthday so we were heading to the bowling ally to meet some friends and while flipping through the radio stations we hear that Whitney Houston passed away suddenly at the age of 48! I was shocked but at the same time I thought to myself about the constant battle with drug addiction she faced over the years. The damage had already been done to her body and it cut short the life of a woman who was once such a huge talent! Even though I'm only 21 years old I know that Whitney was a one of a kind talent in her day. She could hit the high notes that nobody else could hit and inspired artists of our generation today like Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey. It truly saddens me to see somebody throw away a gift like she did. She destroyed her voice and her body from the substances she abused. In 2009 she tried to make a comeback but her career had faded out because fans said she had lost her treasured gift and failed to hit notes. Fans were unimpressed and she began cancelling concerts due to "illness" leaving many to suspect she was using drugs again. At this point it was too late, her career was too far gone. On February 12, 2012 she was found dead in her hotel bathtub in Beverly Hills a few hours before a huge Grammy party that she was supposed to attend. It was reported that a half dozen bottles of medication was discovered in the room. Family members said she had been taking the prescription drug Xanax, which is used to treat anxiety. If the drug is combined with alcohol it can cause drowsiness. Houston was found in her bathtub with her head underwater and could not be revived by paramedics after being removed from the tub. There was no alcohol found in the room but multiple reports said that she had been out drinking the night before with friends at the hotel. Could it have been the accidental mix of the Xanax and alcohol? Suicide? Or just the final straw for the damage that she had already done? How could someone so talented, who had so many chances to get her act together and make a comeback just throw it all away like that? Or should the people closest to her have tried harder to help her? Another legend is gone too soon. What do you guys think?
